Once we got back into our houses, and the power was restored, apparently the fire had circled around behind our subdivision and helicopters and a huge tanker were dipping into Alto Lake, Grindstone Lake, and even the lake on the golf course, to put out the fire……all day Saturday was helicopters flying overhead….

Pictures of the McBride fire…..

Watching the smoke was a little unnerving, but we were not told to evacuate, until about 4:30. Then, it was a panic situation, the firemen were banging on the door,  telling us to get out, immediately!

I didn’t have time to think, or pack…so, I took 2 bottles of water, a pillow, blanket, phone charger….(which was worthless, since all the power in town was out), 3 dogs, a cat and a cockatoo! I loaded the cat and bird in the Jeep, which was in the motorhome garage, then realized I couldn’t open the door, with no power! The door was 15 feet tall, so I couldn’t reach the pull cord.

Soooooo, I moved over to the regular car garage, pulled the cord, and it broke! Great, I’m trapped! I called Jimmy, in Shreveport, for ideas…he told me to get the snowplow pick-up and load it up. I was in the process when a fireman started hollering at me to hurry up,…I told him that I was trying, but was having a hard time. He asked what the problem was, I told him, so he said he had climbing equipment….yup, he climbed up the inside of my garage door and got it unhooked, so I got the jeep out! Hooray!

I called the Swiss Chalet (hotel) and they told me that they couldn’t rent me a room, because all their rooms had electronic keys and wouldn’t work without power. (Crazy, huh?)

Anyway, I ended up calling the Days Inn, and she had a room for me and my critters! They had no power either, but she had rooms! Ended up with several of my neighbors (and their dogs) getting a room, too!

We evacuated on Tuesday, and were not allowed back until Saturday. A couple of us came home Friday afternoon, since the fire had passed….

McBride fire in Ruidoso, New Mexico. April 12 2022

Well, this is a random post, because I need to go back and fill in many dates, but I was encouraged to start posting again, even though we don’t travel like we used to.

June, is notoriously the hottest, driest month of the year, here, And is very prone to fires. April is in the middle of hurricane strength wind months, so it was a little unusual to have fires, already…….The entire state has been in a drought, and we are all praying for rain!

April 12th, our power went out at about 1:30 in the afternoon. No a real concern, it happens in this small village, now and then….so I went out on the back patio and took a video of what was apparently a fire, just over the ridge from us.

No electricity, so I could not go up to the roof,  in the elevator, to see the extent of it.

On the way home from WalMart on Tuesday, I ran across a traffic jam, about a mile from  my house.....Over 2 dozen Elk were munching on a neighbor's  lawn! There was no one behind me, so I just stopped and took pictures......they have no fear of crossing the street, in front of you!
then, when I got home...there were Deer everywhere! I had to honk at one, to move, so that I could get into my garage!  I went in a took a picture from my kitchen window!
I love being surrounded by all the wildlife here.....!

We are not traveling as much as we used to, so my posts will be much fewer and far between,  but I will start posting pictures and happenings a little more now....And then I will go back and fill in for the last three years, I had my entire house re-stuccoed because of a poor job by the original person .... we went to the Albuquerque balloon fiesta this year, and we have been to the Texas NASCAR races over the years,  Jimmy has started a small trucking company hauling sand in the oil field in Texas, so check back now and then and see if I have filled in some of the older posts!

End of summer 2015

Well it's September 2015, and we are getting ready to go to Colorado for a couple of weeks to a Jewels international Motorcoach rally.
Jimmy has been busy getting the sand truck business going back in Texas since Thanksgiving of last year.
We are now finally out of the FedEx ground business that we have been in for 25 years, and hopefully once Jimmy gets the sand truck business going he will come home and be out of the truck and finish building the spec house that we have been working on.
I have not figured out a way to post the collages of pictures that I have in the past so I will just be posting them one at a time until I can figure that out, hopefully you can enjoy them.

Well, I guess I’ll be checking in more often and adding stories and pictures.......
More soon.......

Hiatus........

For those of you that occasionally check my blog,
Picasa has been changed and the normal way of posting pictures and stories to the blog, has been taken over and complicated by Google plus....
I refuse to change to YET ANOTHER "google track you" procedure, so I have stopped posting......
If, at some later date I figure out how to post like I want to, I may begin again, so check back, sometime.......it may be resurrected.
thanks,
Kelli

trip home....

On the way home, we stopped in Butte, Montana to spend the night and ate dinner at a place called Sparky's! So, of course, I had to buy a t-shirt for Sparky, Goldie's friend.
Then, we stopped in Denver, to visit my long time friend (notice I didn't say oldest) haha! Harvey.....
The Eagle was made out of Silver (head and feet) and the body was made with feathers! The wingspan was about 15 feet and it was on top of a building......fascinating!
The RV park was really nice, on an island. The pond had blooming waterlillies......so pretty!
We happened to be parked on the end of the row and the other side of us was a huge area of grass, so we could throw the ball and let the dogs play.
After meals, EVERY night...(I think I gained 5 pounds), we said our goodbyes and started home.
